Festival 2013

In 2013 the Syros Accordion Group organised and managed the festival, securing collaboration and support from the local cultural associations of Finikas and Poseidonia, the Organisation of Culture and Sports of the Syros-Ermoupoli Municipality and the District of South Aegean.They also secured the support and sponsorship from Pigini Accordion Italy (the famous accordion makers), who sent as its representative the well-known soloist accordion player Claudio Jacomucci with his partner Kathleen Delaney, choreographer.

The theme of the festival was Hellenism of South Italy and attracted eminent musicians from Greece, Spain and Italy who came to perform and teach. Three days of music, an opening event, four concerts in prestigious venues, teaching seminars, an accordion exhibition and workshops, music on the streets and a free concert in the centre of Ermoupoli, Miaouli Square.

The Venues
The venues were the historic Apollo Theatre, Miaouli Square, St Nicholas Church and the impressive Tsiropinas Villa in Poseidonia Village.

The Musicians

Some of the musicians performing were, D. Vougioukas, A. Prosilia, C. Jacomucci with his partner K. Delaney, A. Vavatsika, Zoe Tiganouria with Zoe’s quintet, V. Ziakas with the folk/rock band “Endekati Parallilos” and the band ‘Encardia’ (tarantela).

The Exhibition and Workshop 

Panagiotis Zafiriou managed the accordion exhibition and repair and maintenance workshop.

The Seminars

Claudio Jacomucci and Kathleen Delaney managed seminars on the Alexander Technique. Dimos Vougioukas managed seminars on Balcan music.
These seminars attracted great interest from a large number of Greek musicians who have already enrolled for the seminars in Syros Accordion Festival 2014.

Artemis Vavatsika

Born in 1995 inThessaloniki. She began studying accordion near Iraklis Vavatsika father and later with Jasmina Dimitrijevic and Larissa Zichareva. In January 2012, she finished her studies by receiving her diploma from the conservatory Athenaeum, with Distinction degree. She has participated and won awards in national and international competitions.

Dimos Vougioukas – accordion Arety Prosilia – piano

Dimos Vougioukas born in Nea Ionia in 1982. He began his musical studies with  accordion at the age of 11 years at the Municipal Conservatory of Nea Ionia and graduated as a graduate with honors in June 2002. Synechise studying the accordion at the conservatory “Nakas” with Iraklis Vavatsika. In May 2005 was awarded with the 2nd prize at the 1st National Accordion Competition, Grevena …

The Greek band Encardia inspired, create and perform music and songs through the rich musical tradition of Magna Grecia, played and sang without microphones, with a plethora of natural acoustic instruments.

Claudio Jacomucci & Kathleen Delanay

Claudio Jacomucci is an internationally renowed classical accordionist and Alexander Technique teacher. He graduated as an accordionist from Grenoble Conservatory (France) in 1992 (Médaille d’Or à l’unanimité) and, in 2000, he graduated also as an Alexander Technique teacher from the Alexander Technique Centre in Amsterdam. He also studied Southern Indian Music at the Sweelinck Conservatory of Amsterdam. Winner of international contests such as Grand Prix International d’Accordéon in St. Etienne (1988), Trofeo Mundial de acordeón (CMA) in Cuenca (1990), Premio Città di Castelfidardo (1990) and Arrasate Hiria (1994) …

Kathleen Delaney is a dance, voice and video artist and an Alexander Technique teacher. She was graduated cum laude in Performing Arts & Communication Studies (MA) University of Bologna, Italy in 2005. She studied dance in New York, Rome, Florence, Paris and Montpellier, Amsterdam with Trisha Brown Dance Co, Julyen Hamilton, Steve Paxton, Company Blu, Gabriella D’Agostino, Andonis Foniadakis, Emio Greco and had lessons in vocal improvisation and composition with Shelley Hirsch, Gabriella Bartolomei, Germana Giannini. Since 2002 she began to create her own dances together with the musician and composer Claudio Jacomucci. In 2009 she graduated as an Alexander Technique Teacher from ATCA, Amsterdam.

Vassilis  Ziakas

Born in Athens in 1970 hailing from the continent. He has a degree in Business Administration (TEI Athens) and postgraduate Organisational and Economic Psychology (Panteion). Self-taught musician (accordion) and working professionally since 1990 in many different places inside and outside Greece.
